अर्धांगिनीं

मेरी कल्पनाओं की अर्धांगिनीं की आकृति, जिसे तुमने रूप दिया 

मैं जान भी न पाया और वो हिस्सा हृदय का तुमने भर दिया 

मेरी सब कुरीतिया अपनाकर, मुझे अपने मन वो सुन्दर स्वरुप दिया

जैसे वन के जल स्रोत से जमी काही हटा, शीतल जल छू लिया हो 

न मैंने कभी कहा ना तुमने पूछा 

बस यूँ ही मैं तुम्हारा हो गया 

तुमने मुझे अपना जो लिया था 

मेरा हर रूप, अच्छा-बुरा, सब तुम्हारा था 

मेरा ये शरीर, मेरा धड़कता हृदय...
जो मुझे जीवित होने का एहसास करा रहा था 

मेरे सपने, मेरी आकांक्षायें...
जो मुझे जीने की प्रेरणा दे रहीं थी 

सब तुम्हारा विस्तार थी 

तुमने कभी ऐसा कहा नहीं, पर मैंने जान लिया 

जीवनसाथी होने का मूल भाव तुमने मुझे समझा दिया था 

मैं जान चूका हूँ के तुम मेरी सीमा नहीं हो
मेरी जिम्मेवारी, मेरा भय, मेरी ज़रूरत नहीं 

तुम मेरा विस्तार वो
मैं बढ़ चुका हूँ, जुड़ चुका हूँ 

मेरी ये देह, मेरी सोच
मेरे अंतःकरण का ये ताना बाना तुम से नातेदार है 

गहराई से जुड़ चूका है 

तुम्हारा मुझ में वो अटूट विश्वास
मानो के जैसे अंध-विश्वास हो 

पर अब मैंने जान लिया है
तुम्हारा वो विश्वास गहरा था 

जो मुझ पे जा ठहरा था 

वो तुम्हारे निश्चय का प्रतीक था 

तुम्हारे प्रेम का ही एक स्वरुप था ॥ 

Introduction

"Ardhangini" in Hindi means the other half of you. The half that you are incomplete without, the one that truly completes you. Marriage as I see it, is a realization of this very idea. 

Translation

The image of the better half of my fantasies, you made it come true
I didn't even realize and you filled that part of my heart

by accepting all my oddities, you gave me such a beautiful shape in your heart
like someone removed algae from a wild pond and has touched the pure water underneath

neither did I ever say nor did you ask
and just like that I became yours
as you had accepted me
every aspect of me, good and the bad, was yours now

my physical self, this beating heart 
which was ensuring me of being alive
my dreams, my ambitions
which were motivating me to live
were all an expansion of you

you never really said this, but I know it
you have made me realize the true meaning of a life partner

I know this now that you are not my limitation
you are not my responsibility, or my fear or my need
you are, the very extension of myself
I have grown, I am united with you

this body of mine, my thoughts
every single strand of my conscious is related to you
forged with your conscious in a strong union

your unbroken faith in me, seemed almost like a blind faith
but now I know, that faith was deep
which had found its root in me

that was the reflection of your commitment
that was the manifestation of your love.
